Niagara College to welcome senior high school students from the Philippines in pioneering educational partnership

Niagara College Canada

Niagara College (NC) is proud to announce a new partnership with Sacred Heart School—Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) and to welcome its first cohort of senior high school students from Cebu, the richest province in the Philippines, who will embark on an educational journey to Canada.

NC will host the group, including 22 students and two teachers from SHS-AdC, from April 23 to May 6, during the Global Explore and Canadian Education Experience Program. The Program is part of SHS-AdC’s International College and Career Exposure (iC2E) Program, which aims to immerse students in learning experiences in preparation for college, for work, and for life

The Embassy of Canada in the Philippines has generously extended its support for this initiative,
recognizing it as part of the celebrations of Canada’s 75th year of diplomatic relations with the
Philippines.

The partnership between NC and SHS-AdC, facilitated by a recently signed Admissions Pathway
Agreement (APA), will streamline the admission process for qualified graduates from SHS-AdC into undergraduate programs at NC, subject to the fulfillment of regular admissions criteria and based on program availability.

The agreement underscores the College’s commitment to engage, celebrate and bring together diverse cultures to prepare world-ready graduates.

“Niagara College is honoured to collaborate with Sacred Heart School—Ateneo de Cebu and contribute to the academic and cultural exchange of students from The Philippines,” said Hyuk Man (Eric) Jin, NC’s Manager of Global Business Development for South East Asia, Japan, Vietnam and Korea. “This partnership is mutually beneficial for both institutions. Welcoming our global partners to our campuses allows us to enhance perspectives for our Niagara College community as we engage, support and learn from each other.”

Bringing the world to Niagara

In addition to tours of NC’s Welland Campus and Daniel J. Patterson Campus in Niagara-on-the-Lake, the students will benefit from a series of workshops designed to equip them with essential skills for their academic and professional journeys. Crafted by NC’s Global Customized Training & Consulting (GCTC), sessions will include Create Your Own Brand, Change Style Inventory, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI), Entrepreneurship, Sustainability and Goal Setting. Upon completion of the program, participants will receive a Statement of Participation.

The two-week itinerary will allow students to explore Niagara Falls’ iconic tourist attractions and the Heritage District in Niagara-on-the-Lake. To provide students with holistic insights into the Canadian education system, the group will also visit Canadian universities including Brock University, University of Toronto, Toronto Metropolitan University, University of Waterloo, and Wilfrid Laurier University.

Finally, NC is partnering with the Ontario Festival of Culture, Arts and Sports (OFCAS) to introduce SHS-AdC to the Filipino community in Niagara and create opportunities for connection through fun sporting events.

The partnership with SHS-AdC showcases Niagara College’s commitment to supporting access to quality education, fostering global citizenship and developing strong partnerships globally.

Niagara College has a full-time enrolment of more than 11,000 students from over 95 countries, who study in 130 diploma, certificate, and bachelor’s degree programs at specialized campuses in Welland and Niagara-on-the-Lake. Niagara College is also involved in educational projects and partnerships around the world and is consistently ranked among Canada’s top 10 colleges for research funding.
