Strengthen │ Explore │ Pursue

Strengthening foundation and holistic formation through Exploration in the Pursuit of Excellence

Grade 7 to Grade 10

Strengthen, explore, pursue. These are our calls of the Junior High School department – to strengthen the foundation of knowledge and values, of character and wisdom; to explore better versions of one’s self and the things students love to do; and to pursue growth holistically and excellently. We aim for students to grow deep roots and bear good and many fruits.

As we move forward to offer rejuvenated learning, we hope to create more milestones in the adolescent and teenage lives of our students through active involvement and creativity, more milestones to nurture the innovative mind and spirit of young people in the different on-campus and outside of campus activities while remaining adaptive and flexible to ensure health and safety of all.

The Junior High School family hopes to build better the respectful and respectable social skills and independence of all students who venture into the education and formation journey from year to year.

Curriculum

The curricular programs of the Junior High School Department of Sacred Heart School – Ateneo de Cebu offer the regular prescribed program required for secondary education and much more owing to the fact that our foundations defined and suffused all our efforts.

CHINESE: Building Bridges with Communicative Competence

Learning another language highlights three of our core values—Culture, Competence, and Character. As one of the most spoken languages in the world, our students’ learning of the Chinese language serves as a catalyst for increased awareness and maturity as it paves the way to their understanding of a different culture and set of values vis-à-vis our local Filipino Chinese context. Through communication, our students are able to move more confidently in society and among their peers, eventually entering into business.

ENGLISH: Reflective Communicators

The Junior High School English Area facilitates learning by building on their communicative competence through training Ateneo Hearters to listen intently, speak fluently, read closely, write effectively, view critically and research extensively. With this, it is hoped that they become Reflective Communicators able to express themselves in various contexts. A Reflective Communicator is one who is deliberate in his/her thoughts/ideas both in oral and written forms.

SCIENCE: Ignatian Catalysts to Sustainable Living

The Junior High School Science Area aims to hone students who are capable of making informed decisions through the use of science process skills. It envisions students to become stewards of God’s creation through their active involvement in creating a positive impactful change towards sustainability.

MATH: iACTION: Ignatian Active Critical Thinkers through Innovative Outputs for Nation-building

Technology and livelihood Education (TLE): Ignatian Challenge Takers

The Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) Area develops students’ adaptability by utilizing technology, innovation, and action-oriented learning to extend. TLE also develops students’ life and technology skills for home and community. TLE courses specifically aim to concentrate on building and forming 21st century skills of students and the ability to reflect on, analyze, and act on information or data that affects the community.

GUIDANCE: Helping You Become

The Guidance Services believe in the Confucian saying “give a man a fish and he eats for a day, teach a man how to fish and he eats for a lifetime”. Your Guidance Center helps you become self reliant, altruistic, and transcendental individuals through counseling, interventions, group/peer facilitations, mental health activities, and individual inventory service. These services are aimed at helping the individual understand himself and his world better.

Music, Arts, Physical Education, and Health (MAPEH): Catalysts of Active and Healthy Lifestyle

“What good is a noble heart, if the body is tearing apart?” This is why our PE & Health area champions the “healthy and fit to lead” program.
