SHS-AdC Participates in CEAP International Research Conference

written by Rhoderick John Abellanosa

Four (4) faculty researchers represented Sacred Heart School- Ateneo de Cebu in the 1st International Research Conference of the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP) held in Saint Louis University, Baguio City on February 17-18, 2025.  With the conference theme Transformative Catholic Education through Research and Innovation, the occasion was a gathering of around 200 teachers, researchers, and scholars from Luzon to Mindanao.

The SHS-AdC delegation was fortunate to be given an All-Ateneo de Cebu panel titled “Jesuit Education in the 21st Century: Contributions and Perspectives.”  The exclusive line-up allowed the SHS-AdC researchers to weave their presentations highlighting the overarching influence of Ignatian spirituality and the Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm (IPP) in the various endeavors and initiatives of the School.

Mr. Rhoderick John Abellanosa’s paper framed the succeeding presentations.  Titled “The Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm: The Philosophy behind the Pedagogy”, it identifies the key concepts of the IPP and its unifying philosophical foundation, especially as it is articulated in the current and arguably the most popular IPP-interpretation Learning by Refraction.  Mrs. Edgermi Gingoyon’s study uses a descriptive-evaluation design that investigates the implementation of the Junior High School Student Activity Program (SAP) based on ABCD Model. Taking off from Abellanosa’s presentation, Mr. Marcel Baril’s study, “AI in Research and the Role of Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm in a Quest for ‘Middle Ground’”, presents baseline data on teachers’ perceptions on AI as well as the emergent tensions of AI use in the academic and formation context.  His proposed resolution of “finding the middle ground” reflects and applies Ignatian pedagogy in the face of opportunities and challenges in technology use.  Finally, Ms. Janvarica Acop’s paper highlights the success story of SHS-AdC’s “The Blue Plate Project.  Titled, Exploring Stakeholder Perspectives on the Success Stories of the Blue Plate Project in its First Year of Expansion in the Post-Pandemic Revival”, Acop’s research is one of the research outputs funded under the School’s Research Grant and Incentive for SY 2023-2024.

In addition to the above-mentioned accomplishments, the SHS-AdC delegation was also happy and proud to witness the presentation of one of the School’s alumna of the first batch of Senior High School.   Betrice Rose Toring (ABM, Senior High Batch 2018) presented her paper titled “Exploring the Spiritual Capital of Indiana Aerospace University: A Case Study on the Integration of Catholic Teachings, Practices, and Educational Mission within a Non-sectarian University.”  Toring is currently the Accountable Manager of the Indiana Aerospace University Approved Maintenance Organization (AMO). She is taking up MBA in Aviation (MBA-A) in the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Asia, Singapore.
