Preschoolers Celebrate Book Character Week 2026

By: Georgina A. Debuayan (GS Faculty)

Young Ateneo Hearters in the Early Education unit joyfully celebrated their much-anticipated Book Character Week last February 2 to 9, 2026 at the Early Education lobby.

The celebration began with a fun, lively, and heartwarming storytelling performance by the dedicated teachers from the Early Education unit. The pupils listened eagerly as the “Three Billy Goats Gruff” sprang to life right before their eyes. Seeing their teachers portray the colorful characters brought smiles and laughter throughout the assembly area. Their excitement filled the venue, making the opening of Book Character Week truly magical and memorable for every young Ateneo Hearter.

On the second day of the celebration, parents played a meaningful role by generously volunteering their time to read stories in their children’s classrooms. The pupils were thrilled to see their classmates’ mom or dad take on the role of storyteller. The strong collaboration between parents and teachers was clearly evident throughout the activity, giving parents a wonderful glimpse into their children’s classroom experiences.

Throughout the week, pupils also visited the cozy and inviting Book Nook, where they explored a wide variety of books and allowed their imaginations to soar. This enriching activity is one of the many ways the Early Education unit continues to nurture and inspire young Ateneo Hearters to develop a lifelong love for reading.

Originally scheduled on Friday, February 6, 2026, the culmination of activities was moved to Monday, February 9, 2026, due to inclement weather. Despite the change in schedule, the young learners eagerly showcased their creative book character costumes through a delightful parade. Dressed as their favorite storybook characters, the pupils’ bright smiles and enthusiastic energy served as a beautiful reminder that joy and positivity can shine even on rainy days.

Pupils from Nursery 1 to Kinder confidently showcased their talents through expressive poem recitations and lively performances of beloved nursery rhymes. Despite their young age, they demonstrated remarkable confidence, creativity, and stage presence. The teachers, who dressed up as characters from Zootopia, also entertained the audience with an upbeat dance number, with the children happily joining the fun.

Indeed, Book Character Week 2026 was a resounding success, leaving pupils, parents, and teachers with joyful hearts, cherished memories, and a deeper appreciation for the wonderful world of books.
