Nurturing Career Paths of Hope

By: Jo-ana Minese D. Dulfo, GS Faculty

Grade School Ateneo Hearters navigated their way through the Magis Eagles Arena last January 10, 2025, when they dressed up as doctors, nurses, teachers, engineers, soldiers, and other future professionals and experts during the launching of the Career Awareness Week. The Career Awareness Week 2025 magnifies the theme “Ateneo Hearters: Nurturing Paths of Hope”. This week-long celebration was spearheaded by the Guidance team of the grade school department. Mr. Al Goodwin Yap, together with the other guidance counselors and associates, facilitated the launching of the Career Awareness Week and even fired up the entire assembly when they gave out free bread to active participants. Figuratively, the bread was a symbol of nurturance and sustenance to the future bearers of hope, our young Ateneo Hearters who will soon become future leaders, servers, and developers of a fully sustainable world.

Young mathematicians, scientists, and global communicators were then recognized during the Call to Competence. Ms. Marisse V. Paraoan, the Assistant Principal for Academics, announced the winners of the ASEAN Math and Science Olympiad 2024 (ASMO – national round), Philippine International Math and Science Olympiad 2024 (PIMSO – national round), and the Future Intelligence Student Olympiad 2024 (FISO – national round). Mme. Mae Divina C. Velasco, Assistant Principal for Formation, also announced the qualifiers for the Regional Schools Press Conference this coming February 24, 2025. What a delightful reassurance that as young as grade one, our school has already spotted great potential in our grade schoolers!

As part of the school’s nurturance for young Ateneo Hearters to become socially responsive citizens, Mrs. Bernie V. Aton-Poliquit, the Integral Ecology Coordinator, promoted the Zero Waste Policy 101. She explained the school’s waste stream and where pieces of garbage go. The assembly was amazed at how pieces of trash end up in the bins for segregation and the Materials Recovery Facility of the school or MRF. She also explained the
What, Why’s, and How’s of Segregation. Lastly, the Call to Character and Conscience spotlighted CLAYGO (Clean As You Go) and BYO (Bring Your Own) to help our grade schoolers become Ateneo Earth Hearters.

The 4th general assembly, last January 10, ended with the Call to Magis by Mme. Lea P. Amores and the singing of the Lux Oriens. Afterward, the grade school Ateneo Hearters went about their respective activities for Formation Day (Intramural games and Sto. Niño Vocal Solo contest) as they carried with them the learning that whatever they do today nurtures whoever they will become in the future. To our young learners, we are rooting for you to create paths of hope for the world! Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam.
