His Divine Majesty Is Truly in All Things

His Divine Majesty Is Truly in All Things

St Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Society of Jesus, wrote in one of his letters:“They should practice the seeking of God’s presence in all things, in their conversation, their walks, in all that they see, taste, hear, understand, in all their actions, since His Divine Majesty is truly in all things by His presence, power and essence. This kind of meditation which finds God our Lord in all things, is easier that raising oneself to the consideration of divine truths which are abstract.”
This is a classic expression of one of the foundational themes of Ignatian spirituality – that God can be found in all things. Note the practical element of this theme – that it is easier to understand and more useful that more abstract prayer. This July, as we approach the Feast Day of St Ignatius, we pray that during these times of pandemic and  social distancing,  we may continue to find God in all things.
