The Grades 1 to 3 pupils of Sacred Heart School – Ateneo de Cebu brought out their creativity and love for nature in the “Leaf Impressions” activity held last September 19, 2025, from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. as part of the Science Week celebration.
In keeping with this year’s theme, “Science and Health: Building Hope, Inspiring Change,” the young learners used real leaves to design animals of their choice. What made the activity special was that these young Ateneo Hearters created their own designs. With only bond paper, glue, a pair of scissors, and leaves, they cut, shaped, and arranged the pieces to form fish, birds, butterflies, turtles, and many more. Each artwork reflected the unique imagination of the child who made it. At the same time, the activity encouraged the children to look more closely at leaves, their shapes, veins, and textures. It was a reminder that science is not just about facts and figures but also about observing nature and seeing its beauty in new ways.
While nurturing creativity, Science Week also emphasized responsibility for the environment through the “Healthy Haven Award,” a friendly competition for the cleanest classroom in every grade level. Coordinators made unannounced rounds during the entire month of September, peeking into classrooms and taking note of which sections kept their spaces neat and tidy.
In the end, Grade 1 – Fr. Matteo Ricci, Grade 2 – St. John Ogilvie, Grade 3 – St. Edmund Arrowsmith, Grade 4 – St. Isaac Jogues, Grade 5 – St. John Berchmans, and Grade 6 – St. Peter Claver were recognized as winners. Nevertheless, all sections gave their best effort to keep their classrooms clean, showing that the saying “Cleanliness is next to godliness” remains true. For Ateneo Hearters, this also connects to being socially responsible — living out values of discipline, care, and respect for one another and the environment.
Science Week 2025 became a truly meaningful celebration, one that blended fun, creativity, and responsibility. The week highlighted that science could inspire young learners to become responsible stewards of creation and hopeful builders of tomorrow— Building Hope, Inspiring Change.
