Grade School Mathematics Days 2025: “Mathematics, Arts, and Creativity in Action”

by Bonifacio B. Cordova, Math Teacher

The 2025 mathematics celebration was a unique event that showcased the creative and practical side of math through the theme “Mathematics Days: Mathematics, Arts, and Creativity.” The celebration kicked off energetically on March 19 during the Grade School General Assembly, where pupils, teachers, parents, and guardians enthusiastically participated in MathSayaw

Zumba—an innovative fusion of dance, rhythm, and mathematical symbols—demonstrating that math can be both fun and exciting.

Throughout the celebration, pupils were engaged in artistic and strategic activities that demonstrated how math goes beyond numbers and symbols to foster creative thinking and practical skills. The grade 1 pupils showcased their number skills in a Quiz Bee and expressed creativity through Nature Arts using natural materials. The grade 2 pupils explored patterns and symmetry by designing Mandalas and reinforced their number recognition through the Math Bingo. The grade 3 pupils honed their logical reasoning skills with Sudoku and learned basics of business through the activity, “My Mini Business Adventure” activity, where they turned unused items at home into valuable resources by selling them. Grade 4 pupils applied fractions and measurement skills in a Food Expo, ensuring both the quality and taste of their food products. The grade 5 pupils acted as financial planners as they create savings plans and also worked as designers, creating a grid art using geometry and percentages. Lastly, the grade 6 pupils applied spatial reasoning and measurement in Geometricity as they transform their 2D designs into three-dimensional city models.

The pupils in Grades 4 to 6 also participated in various competitions that tested their creativity, arithmetic and analytical thinking skills. They designed math trivia posters using Canva, blending technical skills and creativity with math concepts to promote learning. The winners were from Grade 4-St. Isaac Jogues, Grade 5-St. Alberto Hurtado, and Grade 6-St. Robert Bellarmine. They also demonstrated their strategic and arithmetic skills in the Damath competition, with winners from Grade 5-St. Alberto Hurtado and Grade 6-St. Aloysius Gonzaga.

The 2025 Mathematics Days Celebration has successfully highlighted the creative, logical, and practical sides of math, leaving pupils with a deeper appreciation for its real-world applications. From art and business to design, games, and architecture, the event demonstrated how math intersects with diverse fields, reinforcing the idea that math is not just a subject but a universal tool for understanding and shaping the world. And as what Nassim Nicholas Taleb said, “Mathematics is not just a numbers game, it is a way of thinking.”
