On September 21, 2024, Sacred Heart School – Ateneo de Cebu, represented by Promus—its Senior High School organization focused on environmental sustainability—participated in the International Coastal Clean-Up at Cordova Roro Port in Cebu City. This global initiative, aligned with the theme “Clean Seas for a Blue Economy,” aims to raise awareness about the urgent need to protect our oceans and coasts.
Promus volunteers tackled the shoreline clean-up, while two diver students from Senior High School and Junior High School joined the underwater clean-up effort. These divers collected debris from the ocean floor, showcasing a deeper commitment to preserving marine ecosystems.
The event highlights SHS-AdC’s dedication to environmental stewardship. It encourages ongoing involvement in initiatives that promote a sustainable future and care for our common home—both on land and underwater.
Before the clean-up activities, participants attended an orientation on the Blue Ocean Philosophy and ecological advocacy, led by Engr. Irish Tejero-Dakay, a Blue Oceans member and the school’s Director for Quality Assurance. This session emphasized the importance of environmental responsibility and inspired volunteers to engage meaningfully in sustainability efforts.
The school’s participation was organized by Mme. Bernie Aton-Poliquit, Integral Ecology Advocacy Coordinator, and Mr. Nathaniel Niar, Promus Moderator, in collaboration with the Municipality of Cordova’s MDDRMO, E & Z Diving Center, and other partner organizations.
