GS Honors Assembly Lauds More Than Just The Medals

By: Jo-ana Minese D. Dulfo (GS Faculty)

The Grade School Department of Sacred Heart School – Ateneo de Cebu held this year’s Honors Assembly last September 3, 2024 at the Magis Eagles Arena. This monumental solemn occasion observes the theme “Ateneo Hearters: Lighting Paths of Hope through Competence and Character”. During the assembly, Fr. Mike Pineda, SJ, the school president, shared how medals reminded him of an outstanding gold medalist during the Paris Olympics: Carlos Yulo. In his welcome remarks, Fr. Mike pointed out that the honors assembly lauds more than just the medals. It recognizes the pupils’ hard work, discipline, and dedication. He mentioned that like Carlos Yulo, the awardees had to pour out their all and give their best in everything they do at the onset of their school days to achieve the luminous medals that may serve as an inspiration for others to emulate.  Fr. Mike also acknowledged the efforts of the people who helped the Ateneo Hearter awardees achieve their academic honors: their parents and guardians, their teachers, the administrators, and the rest of the members of the school community.

The ates and kuyas of Grade 6 – St. Peter Canisius also performed a dance and song number to the beat of the songs “I Believe” and “All We Are”. As the awardees received their medals and took their bows on stage, their classmates gave their thunderous applause as a tribute to their years of showing competence and character in everything they do. With or without medals, these young Ateneo Hearter awardees have ignited the path of hope for others as they become examples of continued determination, perseverance, and a big faith in God. All for His greater glory.
