Sinulog is the Feast of the Holy Child Jesus, Señor Sto. Niño is celebrated annually on the third Sunday of January. With this, Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu’s Grade School Department organized a vocal solo singing competition entitled Boses ng Niño: A Voice of Praise last January 10, 2025. It has been a memorable part of the Intramurals Non-Athletic Games for the Grades 4, 5, and 6. With the theme focused on Sinulog and the inclusion of Huniño songs, the competition showcased the students’ talents in a unique cultural context.
Among the nine contestants, three shone bright as they beautifully and angelically delivered their song choices that brought the judges and the audience to tears. Bagging the 3rd place was Agatha Pauline Bautista of Grade 6-Canisius, who sang her version of “Oh Holy Child Love Incarnate.” Jay Francis Zafra of Grade 4 – del Castillo, who dropped jaws with his amazing rendition of “Hiniusang Simbahan”, secured the 2nd place. Meanwhile, the incredible performance of Sofia Andreia Paciencia of Grade 4-Campion stood out among the rest of the contestants with her interpretation of “Daghang Salamat, Oh Santo Niño”. She moved the entire crowd, including the judges, to deep emotion with her heartfelt performance.
The Boses ng Niño: A Voice of Praise vocal solo singing competition was judged by three esteemed members of the school’s community, all known for their excellence in the field of music and entertainment. Miss Cristina Borres, Campus Ministry and Social Involvement Office (CMSIO) staff, along with Mr. Mark Arnold Langahid, a Junior High School Filipino teacher and, the playwright and director of the play Kilat: Dulang Musikal, and Mr. Jovanni Chua, Assistant Campus Minister and Cor Jesu Chorale Moderator, brought their expertise to the judging panel of the competition.
The event not only highlighted the students’ vocal talents but also served as a meaningful celebration of faith, culture, and community, uniting everyone in honor of Santo Niño.
