On June 12th, 2023 the International College of Liberal Arts (iCLA) at Yamanashi Gakuin University was proud to welcome a group of 40 senior high school students from Sacred Heart School – Ateneo de Cebu for a series of demonstration classes as well as to sign a 2-year memorandum of understanding (MOU).
We were very happy to welcome Ateneo de Cebu as our first school group to visit iCLA after the outbreak of Covid-19. Their energy and enthusiasm for studying in Japan were very welcome.
During their visit, students first took part in a talk with our Dean, Professor Sanjay Jhingan, introducing the students to the concepts of a Liberal Arts education and the benefits of studying Liberal Arts in Japan, as well as getting the chance to take a tour of the iCLA campus. iCLA Student Ambassadors joined in as well and the Ateneo de Cebu students got the chance to ask them questions directly about life in Japan and studying here during the course of the tour.
The students were then treated to a Psychology demo lesson by Professor Terence Fong, during which they learnt how our brains often trick us into perceiving things differently than they really are. This was followed up by a lecture on the historical origins and continuing cultural impact of Anime and Manga by Professor Darren Ashmore.
The trip was capped off with a presentation of certificates to each attending student and the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between Ateneo de Cebu and iCLA. iCLA is proud to have this agreement and hope it will serve to continue deepening our ties of friendship with Ateneo de Cebu and its students. We look forward to continuing to work together to enhance our partnership and foster opportunities for intercultural exchange.
Students were also able to enjoy some sightseeing and shopping around Japan in conjunction with their trip. We trust everyone had a fantastic time and enjoyed the famous Japanese hospitality during their stay.
