Education is best when it is shared with others in the community. On September 26, 2026, the Grade School Science teachers of Sacred Heart School – Ateneo de Cebu held a special social involvement activity to celebrate Science Days 2026. The outreach program is called “The Green S.T.E.A.M.” (short for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics). The main goal of this activity was to bring the fun in learning to the chosen beneficiaries: the Grade 5 students of Canduman Elementary School and Carreta Elementary School. Through this meaningful event, these young learners were given the chance to explore, discover, and enjoy S.T.E.A.M. learning beyond the walls of their regular classrooms.
The main part of the event was the station rotation, where the children moved in groups to five different learning areas. To keep the activities organized, Mr. Warren Cabahug, Ms. Allanie Tumulak, and Mrs. Melanie Abello helped in the registration and facilitated the smooth transition from one station to another. First, at Station 1: Science, Mr. Jared L. Yuson taught “The Cell in Microlens”. The pupils were able to manipulate the microscopes themselves to look at the tiny parts of living things, making science real and exciting to see. Next, at Station 2: Technology, Ms. Jeraldine F. Iglesias led the “Circuit Simulation”. Here, they were able to use the PHET app simulation to have a virtual laboratory experience, allowing them to construct series and parallel circuits safely and easily. At Station 3: Engineering, Mr. Fidel Y. Pleños guided the students in “Engineering in Action”. The children really enjoyed the activity as they did the challenge as a team, all while learning about the different types of forces in the real world. Then, at Station 4: Arts, Ms. Pia Bianca C. Bordadora introduced “Pendulum Art”. The students made beautiful paintings using swinging tools, showing them that science and art can mix perfectly. Finally, at Station 5: Mathematics, Mr. Binssein C. Manloloyo taught “Tangram Folds”. The pupils played with shape puzzles to learn about logic and geometry in a very fun way. At the end of the stations, the Science Area Coordinator, Mr. Jonemel M. Alforque, helped the students synthesize their experience, bringing all their wonderful new knowledge together.
In the end, the Green S.T.E.A.M. outreach was a deeply rewarding experience for everyone involved. By opening the doors of our school to the Grade 5 students of Canduman and Carreta Elementary Schools, the Science teachers were able to share their time, resources, and love for teaching with the community. The activity was so much more than a celebration of Science Days 2026; it gave the children a fun and safe space to learn new things and build their self-belief. It is a beautiful reminder that sharing the gift of education is one of the best ways to build a brighter future for all. Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam!
